Activity Details

Time needed: 30–45 minutes

Materials needed:

  • Drawing paper
  • Crayons, markers, or paint

Activity:

The Girl Scout Law says:

I will do my best to be
    honest and fair,
    friendly and helpful,
    considerate and caring,
    courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
    respect myself and others,
    respect authority,
    use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

In this activity, you’ll think about ways to be honest and fair—just like Sunny the Sunflower!

Start by listening to “Sunny’s Story” in this video.

Once you’ve heard the story, do these three activities to earn your Sunny petal. (You can also follow along with the video to hear the steps after the story.)

1. Talk about “Sunny’s Story.”

  • How did Sunny show that she was friendly and helpful?

  • How do you think Robin felt when Sunny offered to give Suzy a tour of the garden?

  • How do think Suzy felt after Sunny gave her a tour of the garden and Buckley invited her to the party?

2. Make a drawing or painting based on “Sunny’s Story.”

Maybe you’d like to draw what happened in the story—or maybe you’d like to imagine what happened at Buckley’s party and draw that!

3. Practice being friendly and helpful.

There are lots of ways to act like Sunny! Think of three ways you can be helpful at home. Then pick one thing to do during the next week.

Congratulations! You’ve earned your Sunny petal. Now when you say the Girl Scout Law, you’ll know exactly what the “friendly and helpful” line means.
