As a Girl Scout, she’ll find her place in the world and make a real difference, whether she travels the globe or decides to participate in local activities with worldwide impact.

Global Girl Scout activities help boost girls’ awareness of the world through cross-cultural learning opportunities—and help her better understand important global issues, giving her the power, inspiration, and resources to make the world a better place. Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low once famously said, “Girl Scouting and Girl Guiding can be the magic thread which links the youth of the world together.”

Here are just a few of the ways girls can participate:
 

You probably already know there are Girl Scouts all over the United States. But did you know the Girl Scout sisterhood stretches around the world, too? The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) reaches 10 million girls and young women in 150 member organizations that include Girl Scouts of the USA. And all of those girls in all of those countries are working to make the world a better place—just like your girl! Get details.

The Global Action award recognizes girls’ commitment to improving the world as they take action to help meet any of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals—for example, reducing poverty and providing universal primary education—form a working blueprint for a better world.

Whatever development goal a girl chooses to work on, the Global Action award is a terrific way for her to participate in Girl Scout Leadership Journeys. Get started.

Girl Scouts of the USA enjoys special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. This standing helps us advance our efforts at the United Nations as we provide input on issues of special importance to Girl Scouts and girls around the world.

In 2019, Girl Scouts will launch the national Girls’ Access to Education civic engagement toolkit for girls in grades K–12. Developed in partnership with the Girls Opportunity Alliance, the toolkit will help girls examine issues surrounding girls’ education—including access, quality, and achievement—from both national and global perspectives. 

The Girls Opportunity Alliance is a program developed by the Obama Foundation to empower adolescent girls around the world through education. Today, more than 98 million young girls worldwide are not in school—yet studies show that when girls are educated, amazing things happen: poverty goes down, economies grow, families get stronger, babies are born healthier, and the world, by all accounts, gets better. To advance these goals, the Girls Opportunity Alliance supports grassroots leaders, like Girl Scouts of the USA, who best understand the unique challenges girls face in their communities and the strategies needed to overcome them. Formed in 1927, the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund supports girls as they travel internationally, connect with sister Girl Scouts/Girl Guides from close to 150 countries, and take action globally.
