Cadette Finding Common Ground Badge Activity

Get to Know Someone Different From You

To practice seeing something from a different perspective.

Activity Details

Time needed: 1–2 hours

Materials needed:

  • None

Activity: Sometimes we make our differences so big we can’t see past them. But when you get to know people who aren’t exactly like you, you often find that they care about many of the same things you do and that you can find common ground—not by sacrificing or changing what you think, but by being open to other perspectives.

Explore a difference of opinion. Even family members and friends have different opinions—on foods, songs, movies, books, and games, to name a few! Think about a family member or friend who loves something that’s not your favorite, and vice versa. Listen to their reasons and try their favorite thing—and have them do the same for your favorite. Then share at least two things you do like about each other’s favorites.

Troop Leaders:  The instructions for all badge steps are available free of charge in your  Girl Scout Volunteer Toolkit.

Girl Scouts at Home activities have been adapted from existing Girl Scout programming and optimized for use at home during a period of social distancing.
