To explore symbols in your community.
Activity Details
Time needed: 30–45 minutes
Materials needed:
- Drawing paper
- Crayons or markers
Activity: A symbol is an object that means something special. For example, the American flag is a symbol of pride in our country. There are lots of other community symbols to find. Get ready to look!
Draw your state’s symbols. Each state has its own flag—and its own flower, bird, tree, and motto. With help from an adult, draw pictures of your state’s symbols and find out what your state’s motto means. Do you think the motto fits your state? For More FUN: Choose a flower, bird, tree, and motto for yourself! Tell a family member at home or call your Brownie friends to share why each is a good symbol for you.
Troop Leaders: The instructions for all badge steps are available free of charge in your Girl Scout Volunteer Toolkit.
Girl Scouts at Home activities have been adapted from existing Girl Scout programming and optimized for use at home during a period of social distancing.
